Final BC2 Journal Entry #13

Monday June 6, 10pm

Unfortunately last week I was unable to attend boot camp. My finally measurements were, I weigh 140 and 31% body fat. The reason for these results is because I didn't make it to boot camp as much as I wanted because of work and school, but that should not be an excuse....I know. For this second project boot camp wasn't my main focus. My main focus was to work on my descriptive and E-prime writing skills. Which I did work on more. I am a little disappointed however, at the fact that I could have possibly tried harder to explain things than use visuals...? But I guess the visuals did help. And the other thing I'm a little disappointed at is I really need to work more on E-Prime. I'm sorry Lawless, but wow....E-prime IS difficult. What I did accomplish was that without thinking, most the time I would write my blog posts in E-Prime. So I guess I did accomplish my project. I am happy with my work because It was a huge confidence boost to post my weight and body fat. However, I learned a lot from this experience and class. I learned new writing techniques that I will not forget, I boosted my confidence AND I taught myself, self motivation for the future! =)

Today without any reminder and having no desire to go to boot camp, I went on a 3.5 mile run. I haven't ran since 5 months ago and it was amazing! The sun finally came out, sweat trickled down my face while my skin felt nice and warm against the sun's rays. The air also smelt fresh and almost like sea salt. It reminded me of summer and how its HERE BABY! SUMMER IS FINALLY HERE!!! My summer goal is to continue to work out and get prepared for college!

BC2 Journal Entry 12 for week 4

Friday June 3, 1pm,
Wow, what a crazy past three days. I have had nothing to do but watch fourth and fifth graders run around like crazy. Did you know that in Elementry school there is a lot of drama!? I sure did not and  the drama was insane! Luckily the kids kept me on my toes and I was able to get a few good run in's while chasing some kids down. Unfortunately I did not make boot camp, however, I went on a peaceful hr walk. Like I mentioned in one of my past blog posts, if people want to see a difference and to become healthier all you really need to do is exericse for at least 30 minutes of your day whether its walking to the mail box or walking up and down the stairs. For me, I walked outside and it was a gorgeous day out. I had the opportunity to feel the run on my skin and in Oregon, thats rare. Even though I hardly made it to boot camp this week, I still stayed a little active here and there and that is the important thing.

BC2 Journal Entry 11 for week 4

Tuesday May 31, 5:15pm,
So I absolutly have no time to go to boot camp. I have to be packed by tonight because tomorrow I am leaving to go be a counselor at an Elemntry Outdoor School Camp until friday. I have done better, however with my eating habits because I know that I havent exercised yet so its making me paranoid. Hopefully these little kids will keep me running so much that I will have gotten my exerices that I need for the week! =)
While in boot camp however, here was another one of my favorite exercises, the Static Crunch.

This exercise works your abdominals and your arms because of when you hold up the weight. It seems easy but dont be fooled by the image. It can be a bit of a challenge when you hold a 20 pund weight over youe head while trying to balance on your butt.

BC2 Journal Entry 10 for week 4

Monday May 30 1pm,

I had a great weekend with my family! I had to work full time all last week and had the opportunity to take friday off and go camping. I felt so releaved to have had a break from the "reality". My family and I went to Fort Stevens camp ground in Astoria. We did not get home until today around 11 am. I am so excited to go to boot camp because last week i hardly went! Ugh, unfortunately I forgot that Memorial Day is a national day and no one works. Apparently boot camp is closed as well! Great! Its ok, I went running once this weekend, I bet I can go tomorrow.

BC2 Journal entry 9 for week 3

Tuesday May 24, 8pm

This week my goal is to go every day to boot camp this week. So far I am two for two and loving it! I am really glad I started this boot camp. It not only has kept me motivated, it has also pushed me to focus on healthier habits. Since I am incorperating it with Literature class, I have also learned to use writting techniques more frequently. I am really hoping that I will remember to use these techniques in college and hope to learn more.
In today's society, it really breaks my heart when I see over weight people driving or walking (hardly able to walk). I am not trying to offend anyone I just want you/everyone to know that exercising should be a BIG part in our every day lives. Through my experience I have learned healthier habits, I cant stay on a couch for more than an hour and I am staying fit. I really hope someday everyone will realize exercise IS important. Even if you go up and down your stairs for 30 minutes straight, it at least go you off the couch or away from the junk food.
My advice to everyone is to everyday, do some exercise or activity that gets you OFF the couch & away from the junk food, for at least 30 minutes everyday. Surprisingly it will make/show a difference.

Monday May 23, 8pm

Yes! My ankle feels a lot better. I took the liberty of relaxing my legs most the weekend to insure I would be better by Monday boot camp. I have been going to 8pm boot camp lately because I have been working later shifts. I also love later boot camp because there are always less people. Mondays we focus a lot on weights and ab workouts. One of my favorite exercises this day is the Dumbbell Tricep Extension.

Dumbell Tricep Extension
When I used to swim I loved to work on my arms. Now that I'm not swimming I can honestly say that I feel my swimming muscles disappear. It makes me sad but it also makes me want to work harder to make sure I keep some muscle on me. Tricep Extension not only works your triceps, but if you pull your arms father down over your head, you also feel a stretch in your chest. All exercises can be dangerous especially this one but if you are careful and work hard enough you can do it.

BC2 Journal entry 7 for week 2

Friday May 20, 10pm

So I mentioned on Wednesday that I had accidentally sprained my ankle. Well Thursday I did not go to boot camp because I was in a lot of pain and today I did not go. I was so mad at myself that I made one little mistake (accident) and put me in a lot of pain. I also am mad because I m unable to go to boot camp. My plan is too continue to ice, heat, stretch and take pain medication to ensure that my ankle gets better by Monday's boot camp.
I did not mention that I learned a new exercise on Wednesday that I loved. Its called Box Jumps

This picture shows a more advanced box jump than what I did in boot camp on Wednesday. this picture at least gives an idea as to what the exercise looks like. There is actually a square about the picture size, marked by tape and four smaller boxes inside marked by tape. You have to face one direction and jump to the squares to your left in a circle, still facing one direction. Box Jumps really works your gluts, thighs, quads and even abdomen. It can be difficult to do toward the end of the class but it takes a lot of effort to accomplish this exercise in the time frame.

BC2 Journal entry 6 week 2

Wednesday May 18, 8pm

I have not been to an 8pm class before. 8pm is a very late class and unfortunately this class has to clean up all the stations. (Laugh out loud) Other than that, Wednesday was a great day. I have not been to the new Wednesday boot camp yet and I became shocked as I saw the new set up. It looked similar to the old Tuesday and Friday set ups, mixed. There were 6 stations lined up along the wall separated by bright orange tape. Then in the middle there was a large orange square. Every time we switched stations, you ran around the large square to get to your next station. After finishing the 6 stations on one wall you go to the middle of the square and either have your water break or do sprints. This set up was really fun and we worked a lot on weights and a little bit of cardio. Towards the end of class my group had landed in the middle square to do sprints. By this time I was sweating a lot, I was exhausted from a long day and felt good for exercising. I unfortunately did not pay attention at one point when I was sprinting and slipped on one of the signs marking stations. I tried to turn my body to catch myself and in the process rolled my ankle. It hurt so much but I did not want to look like I was in pain because our trainers take even small injuries seriously. By the end of class my ankle was swollen and one of the trainers had noticed. He told me to ice and heat when I get home and also take pain medication. I did just that but felt great for going to boot camp! =)

BC2 Journal entry 5 for week 2

Tuesday May 17, 5:15pm

I feel really good today. Not only throughout my day but also at boot camp. I cant remember if I have been to the new Tuesday set ups or not. But if I haven't the set up is like a monopoly board. It starts at one end then each station sets up a zig zag path that the boot campers follow until you get passed the half line in the gym. After that then its a straight line of nothing but bikes, sprints, box steps, mountain climbers, sumo jacks, etc. Most the time those top exercises stay the same throughout the month. I really like Tuesday because the stations vary with cardio and weights. I am the type of person that likes to lift weights but also can sprint after lifting a weight.

BC2 Journal Entry 4 for week 1

Friday May 13, 10am

I love going to the 10 o'clock morning class. There are, usually, hardly anyone there and with less people the trainers focus is mainly on the few people in class. Friday's set up is still the same, a big circle made up of exercises. The only difference is all the stations are more advanced. There were quite a few new exercises added this week. One of the new ones I had never seen before but it became a good exercise for strength.

This exercise is known as Plank Jacks. Plank Jacks can be a difficult exercise for many. It takes a lot of arm strength to hold up all your body weight and to try and balance on your toes. If you have ever just done a regular plank then you would know how much more difficult Plank Jacks would be. Plank Jacks really works out your core, your thighs and your gluts. And you always feel good after pushing yourself to do it.

BC2 Journal Entry 3 for week 1

Thursday May 12, 5:15pm

Unfortunately I was unable to go to boot camp Tuesday-Thursday. I had a lot of things going on at work and at home. I noticed that when I usually go to boot camp I usually make better and healthier options throughout my day. Well these past three days I noticed that since I had not gone to boot camp I had made bad decisions in my eating habits throughout the day. That showed me that if I go to boot camp, I know that if I eat healthier I feel better when I work out. If I don't work out I feel lazy that entire day. Hopefully I will make it to boot camp tomorrow and make it to more classes next week.

BC2 Journal Entry 2 for week 1

Tuesday May 10, 10am
Does anyone have any good ideas or writing techniques they want to see more of in my blog?

BC2 Journal Entry 1 for week 1

Monday May 9, 5:15pm

Ok well I have a feeling that the blog website seriously dislikes me. Probably not but still, my blog posts have been trying to load for the past two weeks. Anyways, for my new project I still would like to continue boot camp for another month. I want to still focus on self motivation and healthy habits but I also want to try and focus more on writing techniques. I want to continue using E-prime. I started using a little bit of it in my last project and I feel like I should continue E-prime because it will benefit me in the future. I will also use descriptive language because not many people still know about boot camp and what it is about.
I did go to boot camp today for my first day of the new month and new project. Last week for my final week, I did say/explain how the new set up was like and I came into boot camp today and it is still the same (new) set up. The advanced I had done is no the beginner and the advanced is now more advanced. We did an exercise I had not done for a few months.

This exercise is called Tricep Dips. This exercise works your deltoids, triceps and biceps. My arms always feel good after this exercise. Tricep dips are one of my favorite exercises to do at boot camp.

Last Journal Entry 13 for Months April 8-May 8

Sunday 4pm,

Well happy mothers day to all mothers (and future mothers)! It is also my dads birthday so double wammie! Today i got weighed and measured. On friday I have mentioned that I had not been following the meal plan very well. Coming into the measuring session I was sure I would hardly see any results. To my surprise there was progress. I started off weighing 142 lbs and 31% body fat (if i rememebr right). Today i weigh 140 have lost 4 inches and have lost 3% body fat. These are not huge numbers but to my trainer he said it is progress but I should work harder. I had been stressing the past three weeks because I started a new job and had longer hours and I was also trying to study for an AP test on top of doing boot camp. Being stressed causes me to eat and it did not go well.
Thankfully what I learned from this experience was how to be self motivated. I know it doesnt really change a person in a month but by week two I was kicking myself in the butt if I did not go exericse. I have also learned that it relieves my stress and if i eat healthier I stay more active. I have also tried working more on my expository writting technique and a little bit of E-prime. I have actually been focusing more on the writting techniques these past two weeks. I went into my AP test, almost writting a full essay in E-prime. I was proud of myself. =)
Now i hope to focus more on eating healthier and more writting techniques because I do not do well on essyas, writting techniques or grammer.

Journal entry 12 for week four

Friday, May 6 6:30pm

(laugh out loud) I am so glad that friday has not been changed to this new challenge my trainer is doing. Friday was tough enough already, i was sure they couldnt make it any tougher. Tonight was my last night and i went out with a bang! Unfortunately i have not been eating well throughout the week and I deffinitly had felt it at boot camp tonight. For my last night it really made me think "what did i not do well during the first month? Is there anything I want to change and make myself better?". I then though yes! You can always improve on something and I was dang sure I needed to improve on the diet he put me on because I can honeslty say I followed it only the first week. Getting measured Sunday is not going to be good.

Journal entry 11 for week four

Wednesday, May 4 10am,

So this new set up, I guess, is happening everyday now. In stead of a regular Wednesday station where we had a line of exercises down the gym, the new set up looks like a monopoly board on one half of the gym and the other half is for sprints. I loved the new wednesday set up. There were more exercises that were more challenging and pushed everyone. A new exercise I learned was called a Pike Push Up:

This push up really works your shoulders, your back and if you flex your abs, its a workout for your abs. I really liked this new push up because it was a new way for a push up and a regular push up gets boring after awhile. This is the last week for my first month of boot camp. I am hoping to see goo results.

Journal Entry 10 for week four

Monday 5:15pm,

Sorry to all my blog followers. I would have had week fours journal entries up but they did not load because i was having computer malfunctions all week. But it isnt an excuse. Luckily I still managed to go to boot camp and it was tough! By week two i pushed myself to the advanced stage and it was good. Well today apparently my trainers had changed the WHOLE outline of exercises and stations. The advanced station i was previously doing, was now the beginner :-P I surprisingly was not nervous and said "what the heck lets try the advanced/advanced station". Ya wrong idea. The new stations are SUPER challenging but it felt amazing. I pushed myself very hard and it felt great. I am looking forward to the new changes and will hopefully see some changes.

Journal entry 9 for week three

Thursday 10am,

Thursdays boot camp, ahhh i love a great obsticle course work out. It has multiple work outs that cause the person exercising to work out different muscle and body structures. I did not go on Tuesday or Wednesday because i had worked later and had other obligations i could not move. So, i decided to go to 10am boot camp to start my day off nice and fresh. It really helped relax me for the day and helped me to feel accomplished. One workout that i particularly loved today was the bent over row exercise, as seen here:

This exercise really works your back and bicep muscles, as seen in this photo:

I extremely loved this exercise because i had been having a little bit of back pain over the past couple days. And as i did this exercise it really stretched my back and it relieved a lot of that fluid building up that cause me back pain. Boot camp is really working for me. I so far feel a difference in my eating habits and i feel very motivated to go with out anyone pushing me to go. I would say that this project this project is working well for me.

Journal entry 8 for week three

Monday 5:15pm,

Well coming off a weekend AND Easter was not so good. I have two younger siblings and the "easter bunny" still visits my house and this was my last year getting a basket. It was thoughtful but unfortunate that i received quite a few goodies. I unfortunately ate a few and today at boot camp i threw up. My body, at first, could handle the sugary goods. By the time i was exercising my body felt sick and i mean sick. I worked really hard today at boot camp because it was after a weekend and i knew i had to pick up the pace since i get weighed in two weeks. My trainer pushed me again. Today there was a lot of jumping exercises and they really did not help with my sugar situations. I forgot to mention along with this boot camp came a monthly meal plan. You have a choice whether to follow it or not. It estimates how many calories a person should eat based on the measurements, their height, weight and gender.I honestly have not followed this plan to the exact, but i have lowerd my proportinate sizes and have watched what i intake. It really has taught me a difference in what i should and shouldnt eat. Also today without thinking about it, i went straigh to boot camp without any motivation from peers or family. I think i am finally getting somewhere. =)

journal entry 7 for week two

Friday 10am,

YES!! Finally i was able to feel well enough to go to boot camp. I have never been super happy to go workout! Unfortunately, i was barly getting over being sick so i was still coughing and having trouble breathing. Boot camp REALLY was a struggle and it didnt help that my trainer was pushing me extra hard today. I seriously wanted to die! Afterward i was glad that without thinking i went and worked out. And not only that im glad my trainer pushed me because the rest of my day i have been super happy, energetic and feel really good! Boot camp really is doing well for me. Next week im going to make sure that i go almost everyday, if not 3 times that week and have my trainer push me. Because i know that i can push myself, i just need to find that push or self motivation. And soon i get to see the final results.

Journal entry 6 for week two

Thursday 5:15pm,

Well, i feel like crap. I am sicker than a dog and am pissed that i have been unable to go work out since Monday. I swear that if i could have the energy to move, working out would have been the best thing for me. Im sick with a terrible cough that has now gone into my chest, so its difficult for me to breathe. Ugh, this is very frustrating!

Journal Entry 5 for week two

Monday 5:15pm,

Today is Monday and boot camp was killer! Coming off the weekend and also some days i missed really made me struggle. It was almost like i started all over again. What sucks is my friend had to quit on me. She was having really bad shoulder problems because she has never done this strenuous workout before and they told her to stop. So today i really did not want to go because i did not have my friend to push me to go. Having that extra someones always made me want to go, now that i was by myself i had no motivation to go. However, this whole project was based on self motivation, so i painfully got myself off the couch and went. It still sucked because it was after a weekend of no working out. Afterwards i felt really happy and relaxed and proud of myself that i was able to push myself to go.

Journal entry 4 for week One

Thursday April 14, 2011 at 5:15pm,

So i missed the Wednesday work out because i had a youth church activity in between my 5:15 class. BUT i went today and boy was it another tough one. Like i mentioned before the exercises stations are different each day. Today was an obsticle course and it was awesome. We had to ride stationary bikes, run over and under poles, climb ladders, run through tires, do wall sits, the usual ab and weight stations and my new favorite exercise is the sledge hammer swing, as seen here...
This exercise really works your shoulders, biceps and triceps. Everytime i did it, It made me feel like a million bucks. The next day however, my arms were super sore. But a wise mane once said "Failure is the key to success. And pain is gain". Three days into boot camp and i already feel better than ever. My dieting is better, i look better and i feel better. I am more active. I am glad i am doing this.

Journal Entry 3 for week One

Tuesday April 12, 2011 at 5:15pm,

Today was a Tuesday exercise. Each day at boot camp the exercises and station set ups are different. For a Tuesday work out there are 10 stations; three sprint stations, one boxing station and the other six are weight, cardio and ab workouts combined. One of my favorite exercises for that day was the plank. The plank is an exercise where you lay on just your elbows and toes and hold that position until you rotate. It really stretches and works the core-abdominals, back and hips. As seen here...
This exercise is really challenging, however it really works your muscles and takes alot of strength. I can honestly say that i could not hold it for the whole two minute rotation. My goal throughout boot camp is to be able to hold the plank for two minutes straight.

Journal Entry 2 for week 1

Monday April 11, 2011 at 5:15pm,

Today, unfortunately I did not go to boot camp. I had my early seminar class, school, then work and felt like I hardly had time for homework. So I did not go and I wish I did because I feel very stressed and exercises is a fantastic way for me to relax and relieve stress.

Journal Entry 1 for week 1

Friday April 8, 2011 at 5:15pm,

Today was my first day of an exercise boot camp that I signed up for. I signed up with a friend of mine thinking that having an extra person will give me that extra motivation. I was weighed in today at 142 pounds and 32% body fat. My trainer wants to see me at 125 punds and 20-25% body fat. I honestly just want to be healthier, feel healthier and stay fit, so that goal sounds good to me. I just need to work hard over the next four weeks.
What the Friday exercises look like is there are two circles in the gym that has different exercise stations. The outer circle has over 40 exercises and is more advanced work out and the inner circle has 25 exercise and is more intermediate stations. Most of the exercises deal with weight lifting, ab work outs, and cardio. To rotate to the next station every person has to run the circle to get to their next workout. It was a hassle to run in a tight circle with over 40 people. For my first day I put myself in the advanced outer circle to see if I could push myself. It was tough, there were a lot of exercises i did not know how to do and this type of strenuous exercise i have never done before. However, after the hour long work out of constant moving, one five minute break and two minute stations, i felt like a million bucks! I had never worked out so much before. Swimming was quite a workout but this camp is not just one continuous exercise, it had over 40 exercises that caused everyone to push themselves. With the sweat dripping down my face and my heart racing, I felt very refreshed and like a new person.
